A little chronology

A little chronology of my Classics Club Challenge


October 7th: Challenge started!

November 15th: I start reading David Copperfield on a train journey – and plow through the first 220 (out of 1254) pages

December 10th-ish: I start reading Emma.
December 12th: First update


early/mid January: I start Measure for Measure.
January 18th: Second Update

early March: I continue with Measure for Measure and Emma for a tiny bit.
March 8th: I finish book #1: Little Men, which I started back in February/March 2013.
March 8th/9th: I start Jo’s Boys.
March 10th: Third Update
March 22nd: I finish book #2: Emma.

April 10th: Fourth Update
mid-April: I start The Fortune of the Rougons.

mid-May: I read another chunk (approx. 100 pages) of David Copperfield.
May 22nd: I read book #3: Mr. Harrison’s Confessions.
May 23rd: I start The Doom of Griffiths.
May 27th: I finish The Doom of Griffiths, which will be counted as one “book” with two other Gaskell short stories.
May 27th/28th: I start Lois the Witch.

June 19th: I start Shirley, and read the first 39 pages (out of 482).

July 6th: Fifth update

October 12th: I finish book #4: Jo’s Boys.

November 2nd: I start reading The Pickwick Papers.
November 8th: Sixth update
November 24th-ish: I give up The Pickwick Papers after 296 pages – for a while, at least.

December 20th: I start A Little Princess.
December 25th: I finish book #5: A Little Princess.


February 5th: I start Persuasion.
February 8th: I finish book #6: Persuasion.
February 8th: Seventh update
February 12th: I start Madame Bovary.
February 19th: I start Sense and Sensibility.
February 23rd: I finish book #7: Sense and Sensibility.

March 8th: I start The Fellowship of the Ring.
March 9th: Eighth update
March 11th: I read book #8: A Room of One’s Own.

May 11th: I start Wives and Daughters.

July 14th: I start North and South.
July 22nd: Ninth update

August 6th: I finish book #9: The Fellowship of the Ring.
August 8th: I start The Two Towers.

Early September: I start to re-read Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.
September 15th: I start The Merry Wives of Windsor by William Shakespeare.
September 16th: I finish book #10: The Merry Wives of Windsor.
September 27th: I start The Tempest.

October 4th: I start On the Shortness of Life by Seneca.
October 7th: Second Anniversary!
October ?th: I finish book #11: Narrative of the Captivity and Restoration of Mrs Mary Rowlandson.
October 30th: I finish book #12: On the Shortness of Life.

November 4th: I start to re-read Dubliners.

December 3rd: I finish book #13: Daisy Miller by Henry James.
December 16th: I finish book #14: Self-Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson.


January 1st: I start Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett.
January 8th: I finish book #15: Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett.
January 9th: I finish book #16: Dubliners by James Joyce.
January 18th: I finish book #17: The Two Towers by J. R. R. Tolkien.
January 19th: I start Orlando by Virginia Woolf.
January 20th: I start to re-read Mansfield Park by Jane Austen.
January 25th: I finish book #18: Mansfield Park by Jane Austen.
